Hello Agencies — thank you for taking the time to learn more about our Partner Program. I'm Ben Haynes, original creator of the Directus platform, and I'd like to kick things off with a quick (but relevant) story about how Directus came to be.

Years ago, while running a digital agency in New York City, I identified a critical bottleneck in our development process. Whether building experiences for startups or established leaders like Google, Snapchat, AT&T, and Audi, before we could innovate on the unique frontend, we were routinely bogged down creating repetitive backend boilerplate.

Worse still, while our engineers were comfortable using database administration tools (eg: phpMyAdmin) to manage data, there were no off-the-shelf solutions we could hand-off to our non-technical clients that enabled them to access and manage their new project's data. So we found ourselves building and maintaining bespoke admin panels and dashboards for each client. Tedious and time-consuming, I knew there had to be a better way.

That's when I decided to prototype a unified data solution that could power any project and enable intuitive data access for all our clients. Leveraging the same introspection as the database admin tools, this approach allowed our agency to simply define a project's data model, and the APIs and admin app would be generated automatically. We knew immediately that this was going to be huge.

Fast-forward to today, and Directus has taken this core idea and expanded it to become an unrivaled data platform with over 22 million downloads.
