Role Overview
We're looking for a Technical Documentation Owner to lead the strategy, structure, and hands-on execution of our documentation platform.
Considering the technical nature of our product, documentation is one of our most important channels to engage with Directus users. This role ensures our documentation delivers clarity, increases usability, and speeds up time to value for our developer audience.
What you'll do
- Own the Documentation Experience. Define and maintain the structure, navigation, and information architecture to make our docs intuitive, discoverable, and scalable.
- Hands-On Content Creation. Learn our product deeply, and independently write, edit, and review technical documentation, guides, and examples.
- Collaborate Across Teams
- Partner with Engineering to capture technical details and translate them into clear, developer-friendly documentation.
- Work with Marketing and Design to ensure the docs platform provides a seamless user experience, helps users be successful in using the product, and reflects our brand.
- Coordinate with Product to anticipate new features and proactively plan documentation needs.
- Continuously Improve. Audit, refactor, and expand documentation to address gaps, reduce friction, and optimize for usability. Gather and address feedback from users to improve docs.
- Champion the Developer Experience. Advocate for our users' needs, ensuring that docs not only follow best practices but also integrate into the overall product and onboarding journey.
- Grow into Education/Advocacy. Depending on interest and company needs, extend the role into user education and advocacy: building examples, creating content, or engaging with the community to help developers succeed.
What We're Looking For
- Strong grasp of information architecture, content strategy, and documentation tooling.
- Passion for user experience, frictionless user journeys, and making complex technical concepts clear and approachable.
- Clear point of view to building stellar documentation for technical products.
- Ability to write independently at a technical level. You don't just gather information, you deeply learn the product.
- Hands-on, detail-oriented, and excited to roll up your sleeves. this is not just a strategy or a review role.
- Experience collaborating with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Design teams.
- Interest in or experience with developer advocacy, education, or community engagement is a plus - the role may expand in this direction over time.
