Developer Experience Engineer

The Role

Directus is seeking a Developer Experience (DX) Engineer to focus on our extensions ecosystem within our DX team.

The DX team sits within our wider Product, along with Server, Web, and Infrastructure engineering teams. The team owns education (including documentation), community engagement and retention initiatives, and all parts of the extensions ecosystem including core engineering, marketplace, and coordinating the building of extensions internally and in our user base.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the core Directus project to improve and augment the capabilities of extensions within the platform.
• Maintain the Directus Extensions SDK - the tool developers use to build their extensions.
• Lead further development of the Directus Marketplace and related processes.
• Coordinate and code review extensions built by team members and key contributors.
• Support our extension author network through education and community initiatives.

• Proactive Problem Solver: You can identify areas for improvement in the extensions ecosystem and take initiative to implement solutions.
• Self-Driven and Autonomous: You thrive when given the freedom to tackle projects independently, managing your time effectively and taking ownership of your work.
• Collaborative Team Player: While comfortable working solo, you also excel in team settings, readily sharing knowledge and contributing to collective goals. You also know when to ask for help to effectively shortcut your own learning processes.

Your Skills

• JavaScript and TypeScript: You have strong expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript, with experience in building and maintaining SDKs or developer tools.
• Vue.js: You have experience with Vue.js, the framework used by the Directus frontend and client (app) extensions.
• Git and GitHub: You have advanced proficiency in Git and the GitHub flow, including complex branching strategies, pull requests, and code review processes.
• Open Source Contributor or Maintainer: You have experience contributing to and maintaining open-source projects, understanding the unique challenges and best practices of open-source development.

Location

While officially headquartered in NYC, all our staff is decentralized by design. Our global team has been efficiently working remotely for over a decade, coming together each day via Discord and Slack. As long as you have a webcam and a fast/reliable internet connection, you're all set!
