Context
- The Directus Developer Relations team sits within Product, along with engineering, and own education (incl documentation) and community initiatives, as well as delivering against event sponsorships, our quarterly week of announcements, and our streaming platform Directus TV.
- We look after our open source community spanning GitHub, Discord, and extending to an audience on Twitter, with a keen eye on the fact that many of our users aren’t and are unlikely to become customers. We design initiatives around this fact to include all while prioritizing our work towards building a sustainable business.
- We work very closely with our colleagues in the growth, sales, and success teams, both mostly in the context of education.
- We are a content-optimized team, but run regional user groups and commit to fewer, but larger, event sponsorships with marketing.
- The company generates revenue through our hosted Cloud platform, on self-hosted users generating $5million+ a year, professional services like support and advisory consulting, and soon a monetized marketplace and through selling access to starter kits.
The Role
Directus is seeking an experienced Developer Educator to join its developer relations team. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating educational content and resources to help developers learn and adopt the Directus platform.
The Developer Educator will be responsible for writing and maintaining educational content across our documentation and video streaming platform.
Responsibilities
- Write and maintain documentation and guides in our docs platform.
- Collaborate with the Engineering team to stay informed about new features, updates, and best practices, and incorporate this knowledge into educational content
- Review and provide feedback on externally-contributed content.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Create engaging and informative video content for Directus TV, our streaming platform, to showcase features, use cases, and best practices.
- Monitor and help community members in our community platforms, incorporating feedback into educational work.
Who You Are
- Passionate about teaching and helping others learn, able to break down complex concepts concisely.
- Experienced in creating technical documentation, tutorials, and educational content.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams - engineering, marketing, sales, and support.
- A creative problem solver - we are a scrappy team and this is reflected in how we move: swiftly and frugally.
- A natural curiosity to learn and share knowledge.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to prioritize work based on business needs.
Your Skills
- 3+ years of technical education experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Git, GitHub, and Markdown for authoring and publishing our docs.
- Knowledge of JavaScript and one or more frontend JS frameworks, relational databases, and APIs.
- Experience working with open source projects and a knowledge of the GitHub workflow.
- Bonus skills: Vue.js, GraphQL, SQL.
Salary
$85,000 - $95,000 location-independent. This is a true upper-bounded range - we believe in being transparent.

While officially headquartered in NYC, all our staff is decentralized by design. Our global team has been efficiently working remotely for over a decade, coming together each day via Discord and Slack. As long as you have a webcam and a fast/reliable internet connection, you're all set!
