Backend Engineer

The Role

Directus is seeking skilled backend engineers to join our team of complex problem-solvers as part of our Server team.

The ideal candidate has the ability to break down hard or abstract problems into smaller chunks, being able to identify and solve for edge cases, and write performant code.

Responsibilities

• Visualize, design, and develop software as we continue to experience growth in the usage and visibility of our products.
• Create scalable software and APIs, as well as efficient networking solutions, that are unit tested, code reviewed, and checked regularly for continuous integration.
• Plan and execute full software development lifecycle for each project, adhering to code standards and agreed processes.
• Track, document, and maintain software, and leverage any opportunity to improve our engineering practice.
• Work with product managers and web developers to influence the strategy and delivery of new product features and system capabilities.

Who You Are

• Able to work both independently, or with other engineers, to meet project goals.
• Experience in thinking about and solving for complex edge cases — Directus has millions of downloads and not every project is the same.
• A natural curiosity to learn and share knowledge.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced and remote startup environment.
• Ability to prioritize work based on business needs.

Your Skills

• Five or more years of experience as backend engineer.
• Three or more years of professional experience with Rust and Python.
• Strong ability in scripting and test automation.
• Desire to continue professional growth through training and education.
• Working knowledge of relational databases as well as ORM and SQL usage.
• Experienced with git and usage of GitHub for project management.

While officially headquartered in NYC, all our staff is decentralized by design. Our global team has been efficiently working remotely for over a decade, coming together each day via Discord and Slack. As long as you have a webcam and a fast/reliable internet connection, you're all set!
