A user's journey with Directus, right from the splash page to navigating through the Data Studio, should reflect a blend of our data platform and your unique brand identity. With the release of Directus 10.7, we are introducing a new theming engine with a dedicated section within the Data Studio settings.
In the past, while we enabled admins to add custom CSS to their Directus projects, but when using it for theming there was a looming risk of these custom styles falling apart if we changed the Data Studio markup. While the option for custom styles remains intact, this new theming enhancement should make theming easier.
This new feature isn’t just about more theming options, it’s a commitment from us. It’s a promise that our core team will handle the mapping between these theming options and the markup, ensuring a smooth transition even when markup changes occur. This initiative instills a higher degree of confidence in your custom theming endeavors and the upgrade process across different versions.
Today, you can set a light and a dark theme, but our goal is to evolve themes into a distributable extension type. While we will likely add more theming options to the engine in the upcoming releases, our primary aim remains — to offer a platform where the Directus Data Studio aligns with your brand.
Directus 10.7 is now available on npm and Docker Hub. As always, if you have questions feel free to join our Discord community.
