Directus Update: Flows

As you may know, Directus Flows enables data from multiple sources to flow seamlessly based on triggers and conditions that you define, making it fast and easy to implement custom event-driven data processing and workflow automation. Flows is a valuable tool, because it helps to eliminate manual tasks that can slow you down as you develop your innovative digital experiences with the Directus platform.

As we covered in a previous blog post, Flows are extremely flexible and easy to configure using a simple no-code interface. You can set up any number of operations, such as sending emails or notifications, transforming data, pushing webhooks, or other actions in response to a trigger. You can build an entire automation workflow in minutes, using draggable operations connected by arrows that represent resolve/reject conditional logic. But what if you want to add a little bit of your own logic to the flow? Well, now you can!

A recent update to the Flows tool enables you to add low-code logic flows in JavaScript, thereby unlocking endless possibilities for workflow operations and complex processes – data transformation, calculations and more. This means you can do far more with the native operations in Directus without having to build logic into custom extensions, quickly customizing your Flows in any way you desire.

The Flows tool was designed to be a broad and flexible tool for automating data workflows, and now it offers even more customization. Instead of wasting time on boilerplate and repetitive development tasks, you can fashion automated workflows to your exact specifications, and have more time to focus on what you do best – creating innovative digital projects.
